Period Overview

Ancient Chinese sages spent thousands of years studying the movement of heavenly stars and how the shifting locations of those stars affect the energies of our environment, such as our residences, offices, and other buildings. This is where the practise of Feng Shui got its start.

This resulted in the creation of a multi-planetary calendar system that is now known as the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This calendar is also sometimes referred to as the Farmer’s Calendar. This calendar evolved into an essential component of Feng Shui’s overall methodology.

Three Cycles and Nine Periods (三元九运)

The “Three Cycles and Nine Periods” (三元九运) in classical feng shui take place over the course of more than 180 years. The Three Cycles are comprised of the Upper Cycle, the Middle Cycle, and the Lower Cycle. There are three feng shui phases that make up each cycle. The Flying Stars Chart contains nine grids, which corresponds to the total of nine eras that are available. Each feng shui period lasts for twenty years and is governed by the energy of a certain star.

Which Period are we in now?

Currently, we are approaching the conclusion of Period 8 in Feng Shui. This spans the years 2004 through 2023. The element Earth represents the eighth period. This Feng Shui period, associated with mountains and young men, is characterised by the emergence of atypically successful young male entrepreneurs. Businesses associated with adolescents and young adults also enjoy greater success.

Given the dominance of the Earth element, it is not surprising that land and property values are rising at an unprecedented rate worldwide. In fact, construction workers are thriving in the current era! This is just one example of how comprehending feng shui can lead to advantageous circumstances.

The good news for those who missed the opportunities in Period 8 is that the transition to a new Period entails a change in energy in various sectors, which could influence our health, family harmony, career, wealth, and so on.
