In the most recent version of Google Search’s “Helpful Content Update,” the term “written by people” has been changed with a statement that Google is constantly monitoring “content created for people” to rank sites on its search engine.
The new language demonstrates that Google views AI as an important tool in content development. Instead of just separating AI from human content, the major search engine wants to showcase good content that benefits consumers regardless of whether it was created by humans or robots.
Meanwhile, Google is investing in artificial intelligence across its products, including an AI-powered news generating service, its own AI chatbot Bard, and new experimental search tools. The company’s strategic strategy is likewise aligned with the updating of its standards.
The search engine leader continues to reward creative, helpful, and human content that adds value to users.
“By definition, if you’re using AI to write your content, it’s going to be rehashed from other sites,” Google Search Relations team lead John Mueller explained on Reddit.
To SEO or not to SEO?
Even when AI improves, content that is repetitious or of low quality could harm search engine optimization.
